Team Canada at the World Stage: Growth, Resilience, and a Statement in Horsens

Team Canada concluded its participation at the Thomas & Uber Cup 2026 in Horsens, delivering performances that combined resilience, progress, and moments of high-level execution against some of the world’s strongest badminton nations.

Competing in demanding group stages, both the men’s and women’s teams faced elite opponents, gaining valuable experience while showing clear signs of growth. The women’s team, featured in the Uber Cup, battled against Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, and Australia. Despite not advancing, they closed their campaign with a convincing win over Australia, highlighted by strong performances from Michelle Li, Rachel Chan, and Chloe Hoang, as well as the doubles pair Eliana Zhang and Wen Yu Zhang.

On the men’s side, competing in the Thomas Cup, Canada faced India, China, and Australia in a highly competitive group. The team’s defining moment came in a dominant 5–0 victory over Australia, led by Victor Lai, Brian Yang, and Joshua Nguyen in singles, alongside solid doubles performances from Kevin Lee / Ty Lindeman and Daniel Leung / Nyl Yakura.

Beyond results, both teams showed their ability to challenge top-tier opponents. Notably, Lai secured a key win over Lakshya Sen, while Li—recently back in the BWF World Ranking Top 10—continued to lead with experience and consistency.

While qualification to the knockout stages remained out of reach, Canada leaves Horsens with valuable lessons and a stronger competitive identity. The performances highlighted areas of growth while confirming the team’s capacity to compete against the world’s elite.

As the international season continues, Team Canada stands poised to build on this experience, turning competitive efforts into future breakthroughs and reinforcing the presence of Pan American badminton on the global stage.
