BWF ANNOUNCES BRAZIL AS HOST FOR THE 2028 PARA BADMINTON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Brazil will host the BWF Para Badminton World Championships for the first time from 14 to 20 February 2028, a milestone in the Race to Los Angeles Paralympics.

The BWF has awarded Confederação Brasileira de Badminton the hosting rights for the BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2028.

This tournament wiill take place in Sao Paulo from 14 to 20 February 2028. This is a key event in the international BWF Para Badminton Tournament calendar 2027-2028.

This BWF Para Badminton World Championship has a special meaning to the Brazilians. The event marks the first time for this competition in Brazil, a milestone for the growth of Para badminton in the Pan American region while the athletes play to earn points in the LA28 Paralympic cycle.

BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul said, “Positioned in the final phase of the Paralympic qualification period, just six months before the LA28 Paralympic Games, the championships will be a critical milestone for all players.”

On the other hand, Badminton Brazil President José Roberto Santini Campos declared, “We see this decision as a powerful testament to the BWF’s confidence in our institutional work and in the exponential growth of Para badminton across Brazil and the wider Americas. We are incredibly proud to welcome the world and are fully committed to working tirelessly to deliver a truly historic championship.

LA28 PARALYMPICS.

The most important feature is its alignment with the LA28 Paralympics. In the new ranking named Race to Los Angeles Paralympics, athletes earn points to qualify from 5 April 2025 to 2 April 2028. The final list with the initial qualifiers is published on 4 April 2028.

Para badminton will maintain a total of 120 places, equally divided between both genders, comprising 98 qualification places and 22 bipartite commission invitation places.
