Peru Future Series 2026: Emerging Talent and Continental Experience Shine in Lima

After five days of competition at Club Regatas Lima, the Peru Future Series 2026 came to an end, bringing together rising talents and experienced athletes from the Americas, Asia, and Europe. From April 29 to May 3, Lima became a stage for the next generation of badminton, while established players continued building momentum on the international circuit.

Canada’s Xiaodong Sheng captured the Men’s Singles title after a consistent campaign that included victories over Brazil’s Pedro Mendonça, Colombia’s Daniel Borja, and Jacob Zhang and Joshua Yang (USA). In the final, Sheng defeated compatriot Asher Bedi, who had previously eliminated experienced Salvadoran player Uriel Canjura. Sheng’s experience proved decisive as he secured gold in straight games (21-15, 21-17).

In Women’s Singles, Peru celebrated through Ines Castillo, who delivered one of the host nation’s standout performances. Castillo advanced confidently through the draw before defeating compatriot Naomi Junco in an all-Peruvian final (21-13, 21-12), giving local fans a memorable result on home soil.

Canada also claimed gold in Men’s Doubles thanks to the young duo of Jason Mak and Yan Kit Wong. Despite entering as one of the lower-ranked pairs, the Canadians produced an impressive run, defeating multiple Peruvian teams and overcoming a tough Brazilian semifinal before defeating an Indian pair in the final to secure the title.

Brazil responded strongly in Women’s Doubles, where Tamires Santos and Ana Ywata claimed gold after a hard-fought final against Peru’s Valeria Chiquimaqui and Mei Kiyota. After dropping the opening game, the Brazilian pair responded with composure and consistency to complete the comeback victory.

The Mixed Doubles final delivered another Brazil–Peru clash, with Brazilians Joaquim Mendonça and Tamires Santos facing Peru’s Sharum Durand and Rafaela Munar. In a closely contested encounter, the Peruvian pair rose to the occasion in key moments, securing the title and earning Peru its second gold medal of the tournament.

With champions from Peru, Canada, and Brazil, the Peru Future Series 2026 once again demonstrated the depth, diversity, and continued growth of badminton across the Pan American region and beyond.
