Brazilian Glory in Caldas da Rainha

Brazilian athletes secured one gold and two bronze medals at the 61 Portugal International Championships, held from March 4 to 8 in Caldas da Rainha. Juliana Viana Vieira captured the gold medal in Women’s Singles, while Fabrício Farias earned two bronze medals — in Men’s Doubles alongside Davi Silva and in Mixed Doubles with Jaqueline Lima.

The tournament featured athletes from several continents, with 11 players from the Pan American region competing across all five disciplines. In the end, Brazil stood out among the Pan American representatives with podium finishes in Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

Vieira delivered an impressive campaign to secure the Women’s Singles title. On her path to gold, she defeated Mafalda Avelino (POR), Sophie Noble (IRL), Anna Siess Ryberg (DEN), and Kristin Kuuba (EST) before facing Frederikke Østergaard (DEN) in the final. After dropping the first game, the Brazilian staged a strong comeback to win the next two games and claim the championship.

In Men’s Doubles, Farias and Silva secured the bronze medal after reaching the semifinals, where they were defeated by the French pair Natan Begga and Grégoire Deschamp. Farias also reached the Mixed Doubles semifinals with Jaqueline Lima, where they faced Wu Hsuan-Yi and Yang Chu Yun from Chinese Taipei, earning another bronze medal for Brazil.

Badminton Pan Am congratulates all Pan American athletes for their remarkable performances at the Portugal International and looks forward to seeing them continue their progress on the international stage.
