Champion Team – Pan Am Junior 2021

The United States team won the gold medal at the Team Event of our XXIX Pan Am Junior Championships 2021, after defeating Brazil in the final tie by 3-0.

After leading the group stage, the USA team defeated Peru in the Semifinals (3-0) and did the same with Brazil in the Final (3-0), winning the event trophy.

The Final tie started with the Mixed Doubles match between Ryan Ma & Alisson Lee (USA) vs Marcos Sousa & Julia Vieira (BRA) and, after a close first game, Ma & Lee won 22-20 21-16 adding the first point for USA. Don Averia (USA) won the second point after defeating Deivid Silva (BRA) in straight games (21-14 21-14). Natalie Chi (USA) closed the victory after against Juliana Vieira (BRA) in two games (21-7 21-17).

Mexico Won the Bronze

Local team reached the podium after defeating Peru (3-0) in the third place match early today.

Mexico ended the group stage as third and faced Brazil in the Semifinals (0-3). After losing this match, Mexico played the Third Place Match against Peru.

This tie started with the victory of Mexican duo Rodrigo Morales/Romina Fregoso, who defeated Frabrizio Tabini /Airi Moromisato (PER) 21-16 21-13, winning Mexico’s first point. Cesar Franco (MEX) did the same againt Sharum Duran (PER) in two straight games 21-15 21-11. Mexico promise, Vanessa Garcia, close the tie with a victory against Fernanda Munar 21-17 21-13.

The Award Ceremony was led by Mr. Zarko Cukic, BPAC Events Deputy Chair, Mr. Javier Orozco, President of Mexico Badminton Federation, and Mr. Ramon Bello, Director of the Gerrero’s Sports Institute, who who accompanied the athletes to receive their medals (featured image).

This Event have the presentation of the Pan Am Junior Team Event Trophy for the very first time, and the USA was the first team to win it. This Trophy was handcrafted by Esmeralda Montoya, Mexican artist who is also a BPAC Line Judge and national umpire.
