In the Round of 16, Lai defeated South Korea’s Jeon Hyeok Jin with a score of 21–17, 21–13. Previously, he secured victories over Edward Lau of New Zealand and China’s Lu Guang Zu. Lai will face Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the upcoming quarterfinal match.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in Lai’s career, showcasing his potential on the international stage.

“I’m shocked. I can’t believe it. I’m in the quarterfinals. I think I gave it my all and outplayed my opponent. In yesterday’s match, beating a Chinese player, a top-20 player, gave me a lot of confidence. Plus, I’d already played against the Korean and beaten him, so I think I had a good chance today.”

“It’s very important for me because I feel like I’m playing well now, and I have more confidence in myself. It’s significant for Team Canada to show that we’re among the best. And I want to thank all the Pan Am fans; I hope we can show that Pan Am belongs on the world stage.”
