I was born in a mining country in the north of France. After I became a PE teacher, I was transferred to Martinique in 1984, and I discovered badminton at the age of 27 during a school course.

It struck me as a sport with a playful and very sporting aspect, without contact, which can be played as a mixed game, with the advantage of being able to play and make exchanges from the very beginning.
As a PE teacher, I introduced badminton in my classes at school and university, considering the physical and moral qualities it develops. I also created a badminton club in Fort de France in 1989, and a league in 1990. I have practiced at a club since then as a recreational player.

Badminton represents for me a complete sport, playful and friendly that can be practiced at any age, in leisure or in competition, and is accessible to all, while the cost of playing is not high, and which can also be used to develop overall health. Badminton is one of the few sports where women can play with and against men. It can be played in a relatively small space compared to handball or basketball… it is an opposition sport, but without contact, individually or in team format.
It also allows for the training of supervisors and officials, and on the association level, to develop the qualities of fair play, responsibility, respect, and involvement in society. It is helpful in developing moral and social values.

Iโ€™ve attended the French Open several times and have always been impressed to see the high level of competitors, particularly the Asian players. I was also happy when my high school team badminton team won the national team championships.

I think that Shuttle Time is well adapted to the teaching of badminton in primary schools. The exercises recommended are adapted to different age categories, and can easily be taught by teachers by following the course material.
We donโ€™t have tutors in Martinique and have to call upon a trainer from Guadeloupe who comes once a year to conduct a Shuttle Time course for teachers. We appreciate the support of Pan Am and BWF for this programme.
