Parapan Am Games Champions – Santiago 2023

Pan Am Players from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and United States won the medals of the Para badminton competition at the Parapan Am Games Santiago 2023, developed in Chile from November 22 to 26.

After a great days of competition, the Para badminton conquered the hearts of the entire public that attended the venue and of all those who encouraged each of our athletes from a distance.

Local Para badminton star, Jaime Aranguiz, champion of the last Pan Am Para Badminton Championships 2022, won the gold medal in MS WH2, after defeating Julio Cesar Godoy (BRA) in straight games. Bernand Lapointe (CAN) got the bronze medal in this event.

World Champion Pilar Jauregui (PER) defended her title very well reaching the gold medal in WS WH2 after defeating Maria Gilda Dos Santos (BRA) in the final. Silva Silva (PER) got the bronze medal in this event. Jauregui also won the gold in WD WH1-WH2 along with Jaquelin Burgos. The peruvian pair got 3 victories in this event (round robin system) reaching the first position. Ana Gomes/Daniele Souza (BRA) and Maria Gilda Dos Santos/Auricelia Evangelista (BRA) got the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Daniele Souza is the WS WH1 champion. She defeated Jaqueline Burgos (PER) in the final, while Yuka Chokyu (CAN) got the bronze medal after winning the third-place-match.

Also in WH1 class, Marcelo Conceicao (BRA) got the gold medal after defeating Rodolfo Cano (BRA). Colombian Victor Aragon reached the bronze medal. Conceicao, along with Godoy, won the MD WH1-WH2 gold medal after their victory against Edmar Barbosa/Rodolfo Cano (BRA) in the final match reaching their second Parapan Am Games title in a row. Peruvians Roberth Fajardo/Fernando Vilcachagua got the bronze medal of the event.

Miles Krajewski (USA) won 2 gold medals in SH6 events. In Singles, he defeated the defeanding champion, Vitor Tavares (BRA) in the final while Nilton Quispe won the bronze medal of the event. In Mixed Doubles, Miles and Jayci Simon (USA) got the podium top after winning the 4 matches of the Round Robin in Mixed Doubles. Nilton and Giuliana Poveda (PER) got the silver while Jesus Salva and Rubi Fernandez (PER) reached the bronze.

Giuliana Poveda (PER), former world champion, won the gold in Women’s Singles after defeating Jayci Simon (USA) in the final. Rubi Fernandez got the bronze medal of the event.

Rogerio De Oliveira and Edwarda De Oliveira (BRA) are the XD SL3-SU5 champions. They defeated Yuki Rodrigues/Adrian Avila (BRA) in the final. Peruvians Renzo Bances and Jenny Ventocilla won the bronze medal in this event.

Rogerio also won the gold in MS SL4 after defeating Maximiliano Avila (MEX) in the final surpassing the result he obtained in 2019. Johann Breno (BRA) reached the third place. Yuki is the MS SU5 champion. He defeated Manuel Del Rosario (CUB) in the final to reach the gold medal, while Jairo Aranguri (PER) won the bronze medal.

Pedro Pablo De Vinatea (PER) repeated the result he got in Lima 2019 and is the champion in MS SL3. He defeated William Roussy (CAN) in the final. The bronze medal of this event was for Gerson Vargas (PER).

Brazilians won the gold medals in the Women’s Singles event of Standing Classes (SL3, SL4, SU5). Abinaecia Da Silva in SL3, Ana Reis in SL4 and Mikaela Almeida in SU5. With this result, Almeida reached her second Parapan Am Games gold medal in a row (Lima 2019). in SL3 Kauana Beckenkamp in SL3 and Adriane Avila in SL3 won the silver and bronze respectively. In SL4, Edwarda De Oliveira got the silver medal while Olivia Meier (CAN) reached the bronze medal. In SU5, Diana Rojas (PER) won the silver medal and Kelly Ari (PER) got the bronze medal.

The BPAC Executive Board, led by Mr. Armando Bruni, BPAC president, was part of this Parapan Am Games 2023, sharing different moments with players and audicience. Also they were part of the Medals Ceremonies along with Mr. Paul Kurzo, BWF Vice President, Mrs. Pilar Carrillo, BWF Council Member, and some local representatives.
