Para badminton Shinning in Spain

Pan Am players from Brazil, Canada, Peru and United States took the podiums of the Spanish Para Badminton International 2023, BWF Para badminton International Level 2 event held in Vitoria, Spain, from February 20 to 26.

World Champion, Pilar Jauregui, showed why she is the best in WH2 after winning 2 gold medals and one bronze.

Jauregui started the competition as a seeded 3/4 in the WS WH2 event and led the Group C after defeating players from Korea and Australia. In Quarter-Finals, Pilar defeated Maurel (FRA) in straight games and did the same in Semifinals against the seeded 1, Ilaria Renggli (SUI), to reach the Final where our Pan Am champion defeated Yuma Yamazaki (JPN), seeded 2, by 21-15 and 21-19.

In Mixed Doubles, Pilar and Yuri Ferrigno (ITA) won the crown after lead the Group B and defeated duos from Australia in Quarter-Finals, Spain/Austria in Semifinals and korea in the Final.

Pilar also won a bronze medal in Women’s Doubles along with Jaquelin Burgos (PER). Both defeated duos from France in group stage, and Brazil in Quarter-Finals but lost against, seeded 1 duo, Satomi/Yamazaki (JPN) in Semifinals.

In SH6 category, Miles Krajewski and Vitor Tavares won the gold in Men’s Doubles after winning in every match they played. In this event, the silver medals were for Justin Kendrick/Wyatt lightfoot (CAN) and the bronzes for Nilton Quispe/Jesus Salva (PER).

Miles also won a bronze medal in Singles after led Group D, defeated Solaimalai (IND) in Quarter-Finals but lost against Chu Man Kai (HGK) in Semifinals.

Rubi Fernandez (PER) won a gold medal in Women’s Doubles SH6 along with Nithya Sumathy (IND) after defeating duos from Ukraine and Chinese Taipei in Group B, and defeated Bujnicka/Szmigiel (POL) in the final. Also in this event, Rosa Velasquez (PER) won the bronze medal along with Anya Butterworth (ENG).

Giuliana Poveda and Nilton Quispe got the bronze in Mixed Doubles. World medalists started the tournament as seeded 1 duo and defeated players from Hong Kong China, but lost against Meechai/Saeyang (THA) in Semifinals.

In Women’s Singles SH6, Poveda and Jayci Simon reached the 3/4 places. Poveda defeated players from Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China and Poland but lost against Rina Marlina (INA) in Semifinals. While Simon led Group F after defeating players from Peru and Poland to reached the Main draw where she defeated Yu Yen-Wu (KOR) and former World Champion Rachel Choon (ENG) but lost against Sumathy (IND) in Semifinals.
