Pan Am Para-Badminton Athletes highligthed in the Forza Irish Para-Badminton International 2018, held from June 20 to 24 at the National Indoor Area in Dublin, Ireland.
Giuliana Poveda (PER), Katherine Valli (USA), Yuka Chokyu (CAN) and Pilar Jauregui (PER) won medals for our region.
Pan Am duo Giuliana Poveda and Katherine Valli won the gold medal in Women’s Doubles SS6 after beating the pair formed by Irina Borisova (RUS) and Deidre Nagle (SCO) by 21-9 and 21-6 in 16 minutes. In singles, Poveda, World Championships runner up, won the silver medal in Singles after falling to Rebeca Bedford (ENG) in 3 tight games. Katherine Valli won the bronze medal after falling to Bedford in Semifinals. In addition, Giuliana won a bronze medal in Mixed Doubles with Niall Mc Veigh (IRL).
Peru’s Pilar Jauregui also won medals in this tournament. In Singles WH2, she reached the final and faced Sun Ae Lee (KOR) falling by 14-21 and 8-21. Pilar also won the silver medal in Mixed Doubles with Jae Gun Jeong (KOR) after facing the Koreans Sam Seop Lee and Sun Ae Lee.
Yuka Chokyo from Canada, got a bronze medal in Women’s Doubles WH1-WH2 with Fiona Christie (SCO).
Miles Krajewski (USA), Marcelo Alves (BRA), Bernand Lapointe (CAN), Jesus Salva (PER), Vitor Gonçalvez Tavares (BRA), Richard Peter (CAN), Eric Johnson (USA), Cleto Eugenio (BRA), Pascal Lapointe (CAN) and Wyatt Lightfoot (CAN) also had outstandings performances in the tournament.
Our Para-Badminton players continue adding experience and preparing for the next tournaments like Brazil Para-Badminton International, Pan Am Para-Badminton Championships in Lima, Peru, and for the Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.
