Pan Am Players at Spanish Para badminton International 2021

During May, Pan Am Players from Guatemala, Peru and United States participated at the Spanish Para badminton International 2021, held in Cartagena, Spain, looking for add points in the Road to Tokyo Ranking.

The Spanish Para badminton International was the last tournament of the Qualification Period for the next Paralympic Games.

Pilar Jauregui reached bronze medal in Singles after defeating players from Spain and Switzerland but losing against Gureeva (RUS) in semifinals. In Mixed Doubles, Jauregui and Yuri Ferrigno (ITA) defeated duos from Russia, Austria/Spain, Spain/Egypt and Switzerland reaching the finals where they lost against Kim/Kang from Korea.

Raul Anguiano and Pedro Pablo de Vinatea also won a medal. The Men’s Doubles SL3-SL4 event witnessed their good game. They started the tournament with two wins against duos from Russia/Poland and Italy reaching semifinals where they lost against Tugra/Tuemkaya (TUR) in a tough 3-games-match.

Jesus Salva won a silver medal in Doubles, event he played along with Alexander Mekhdiev (RUS) reaching two victories in the grou stage but losing against Nokes/Morat (FRA) in the dispute for the first place.

Our World Champion, Giuliana Poveda, won the crown in Singles SH6 after defeating players from Russia, Ukraine and Poland. Poveda also reached the podium in Doubles, along with Uliana Podpalnaya (RUS).

Miles Krajeswki also had a great performance during this tournament. After a victory and a loss in the group stage, Miles reached Quarterfinals where he lost to Charles Noakes (FRA) in a tough match.

Pan Am players are now waiting for the official list of Players qualified to the Paralympic Games that will be published by BWF in the next weeks, according regulations.
