Pan Am Players at Dubai Para Badminton International 2021

Jesus Salva (PER) won a silver medal in Men’s Doubles SH6.

Pedro Pablo De Vinatea (PER) and Kleiber Mijares (VEN) also had good performances.

Pan Am Para badminton athletes, Jesus Salva, Kleiber Mijares and Pedro Pablo De Vinatea represented our region at 3rd Dubai Para Badminton International, held in United Arab Emirates from March 30 to April 4.

Jesus Salva participated in the SH6 singles event where he defeated Ruth Mueni Nzioka (KEN), but was unable to defeat rivals from France and Malaysia to enter the next stage. Salva also participated in the Men’s Doubles event alongside Alexander Mekhdiev (RUS). They defeated two Kenyan rivals but after losing to Nagar Krishna / Raja Magotra (IND) they reached the silver medal.

Kleiber Mijares (VEN) was in MS SU5 Group B and MD SU5 Group B. In Singles, Mijares achieved a good performance in every game but lost both matches against rivals from France and Malaysia. In Doubles, Mijares played along with Pablo Serrano (ESP) losing the two group matches against duos from Malaysia and Indonesia.

Peru star, Pedro Pablo De Vinatea was in group D of the SL3 category, where he obtained a victory against Edwin Muruah Mwangi, from Kenya, but could not defeat his rivals from India to access the next stage of the tournament.

This tournament marked the return to competition of our Para badminton athletes after more than a year of suspension from tournaments due to the current pandemic. They are now preparing for the Spain Para badminton International 2021 which will be the last qualifying event for the 2021 Paralympic Games.
