Pan Am Para Badminton Champions in Uganda

Athletes from Brazil and Peru won medals at Uganda Para Badminton International 2019, tournament that give them experience in their preparation for Lima 2019 and points for the qualification for Tokyo 2020.

Pilar Jauregui won 2 golds, Jesús Salvá, one silver and one bronze, Marcelo Alves and Julio Cesar Godoy won silver medal and Rogerio De Oliveira, Eduardo Oliveira and Pedro Pablo De Vinatea won bronze medals for our region.

Pilar Jauregui (PER) won gold two gold medals in this tournament. First, she reached the WS WH2 Finals after leading Group A, defeating athletes from Russia, Turkey and Kenya, and beating Ammu Mohan (IND) in Semifinals and Emine Seckin (TUR) in the Final. Then, Pilar also won gold in WD WH1-WH2 with Henriett Koosz (AUT). They won against athletes from Kenya and Nigeria in Group Stage and defeated Knoblauch/Rongen (GER) in the Final reaching the first place.

Also, SS6 players Jesus Salva (PER) won 2 medals at this tournament. Salva reached Semifinals in MS after victories against outstanding players from Egypt and Benin but losing against top seed Nagar Krishna, winning bronze medal. Also, Salva won silver medal in Doubles along with Anthony Ojwang Otwal (KEN).

Brazilian WH duo Marcelo Alves & Julio Cesar Godoy won silver medal in MD. They were one of the favorite duos and won in gruop stage against pairs from India and Russia. They beat Pargeev/Stepanov (RUS) in semifinals but they can not overcome French duo Jakobs/Toupe in the final.

Peru’s Pedro Pablo De Vinatea won bronze in MD SL3-SL4, along with Tim Haller (GER), and Brazil duo Eduardo Oliveira /Rogerio De Olivera also won bronze in MD SU5.

Our athletes continue focused on performing in the best way for the next Para Pan American Games and have been achieving good results in this qualifying period for the Paralympic Games 2020.
