Eulalio Gurumendi – Human of Shuttle Time

Humans of Shuttle Time: Eulalio Eduardo Gurumendi Vera
Shuttle Time National Coordinator, Badminton Federation of Ecuador

Childhood Days
My childhood was very beautiful as I lived in the countryside. I had fun hunting, fishing, farming, riding horses, etc. The only problem was not being able to study well because in my region there was no established school so I had to move to the city to finish my studies.

Running into Badminton
In June of 2004 I was without work and by chance I met an old friend who saw me without a job and he gave me the position of administrator of a badminton hall that had just opened. After a while working there the sport seemed very interesting. I managed to become an beginners’ coach and later I had the opportunity to coach the Ecuadorian Badminton Team.

First Impressions
I was struck by many things, such as the shuttlecock, the racket and the speed of this sport, as well as the way of playing, all this was something totally new for me. I’m now coach, tutor and National Coordinator of Shuttle Time. I am also responsible for the staff who work with the Ecuadorian badminton team and I’m in charge of string repair of rackets.

Developing Badminton in the Community
In 2008 I started meeting with school principals and PE teachers to teach them badminton. I also started developing badminton in my neighborhood at a field.

Impact of Shuttle Time
This programme has allowed us to prepare teachers in schools so that everyone works and shares their knowledge with the children.
