Cuba Won Five Golds – Pan Am Circuit 2019

Cuba won all gold medals at Mexico Future Series 2019.

The first edition of the Mexico Future Series 2019, held from June 26 to 30 in Guadalajara, Mexico, saw Cuban athletes climb five times to the top of the podium after exciting games.

Osleni Guerrero, Taymara Oropesa, Leodannis Martinez and Yeily Ortiz showed their best game crowned champions in the 5 modalities of the tournament.

At the beginning of the last day of the tournament, Pan Am Champion 2019, Osleni Guerrero, reached the final after winning in straight games to 3 rivals from Mexico and one from El Salvador. In the final he beat local Lino Muñoz in 3 tough games (20-22, 21-18 and 21-15). Luis Montoya (MEX) and Sahil Sipani (ENG) won the bronze medals.

Taymara Oropesa also shone in this tournament. She won her first gold medal, and the second for Cuba, in the Women Singles final against Mariana Ugalde (21-9 and 21-18). In addition, along with Yeily Ortiz, they climbed to the top of the Women’s Doubles podium after beating seeded one duo, Diana Corleto / Nikte Sotomayor (GUA) by 21-13 and 21-18.

Guerrero added his second gold medal in Men’s Doubles, along with Leodannis Martinez, after beating Luis Montoya / Andres Lopez (MEX) in straight games (21-13, 21-19). Jonathan Solis / Rodolfo Ramirez (GUA) and Arturo Angeles / Sebastian Martinez (MEX) completed the podium.

The fifth Cuban gold medal came from the duo Guerrero / Oropesa, who won in the final of Mixed Doubles (featured image) to Luis Montoya / Vanessa Villalobos (MEX) after 3 hard games (22-20, 15-21 and 21-16 ).

Leodannis Martinez and Yeily Ortiz also took the podium in Mixed Doubles, after beating seeded one duo, Nelson Javier / Nairoby Jimenez (DOM) and falling in the semifinal against Montoya / Villalobos (MEX), thus winning the bronze medal, together with Arturo Hernandez / Mariana Ugalde (MEX).

After this tournament our athletes have been able to add more points in the qualification period to the next Olympic Games, but also continue to improve in their preparation for the Pan American Games Lima 2019 that will start the badminton competition on July 29.
