Coach Education – Willian Gutierrez – COL

Colombian badminton continues to grow and be strengthened by the work of coaches, managers and players who seek to improve day by day. Among them is Willian Gutierrez, coach who leads the Colombian team and little by little sees his work rewarded with the great development of badminton in his country.

Willian played volleyball for many years, but when he got to know our sport he decided not to quit and make it a part of his life. He continued training as a coach and achieving good results for his town and country.

“I got involved with badminton by chance, a ‘mistake’ in life. A ‘mistake’ of a coach who quotes us for a volleyball training but did not come and I saw that there were other people who practiced badminton. After having I played volleyball for 10 years, I entered that badminton class and I never went back to volleyball again. It was a nice coincidence, a good mistake, and I’ve been in badminton for 8 years and I wouldn’t change it for anything. ”

Among the training that Willian has received is the BWF Coach Level 3 Pilot Course, held last November in our region. A course that, according to Willian, made him see his work in a different way and analyze the situation of Colombian badminton today to be able to rethink a new strategy with the tools acquired in the course.

“This course has been very interesting. At the time we reviewed the manual there was a total change in the thinking that I brought. Upon arrival, seeing the tutors and the dynamics of the course made me think about the importance of what we were doing, since many times, in our countries, we develop a role which we want others to imitate, that our athletes follow without question. In the course they gave us excellent tools to implement in our country so that badminton is enhanced and we begin to work as a team, as a region and as a country to guide us in the same direction with all these tools.”

The new knowledge and experiences that Willian has lived lead him to dream and want to continue contributing to the development of badminton in Colombia. He yearns to form a group of professionals who collaborate in the comprehensive training of athletes, as well as empower the current representatives of his country.

“My great dream is to contribute to my country as much as I can. I would like to make an interdisciplinary team, where several professionals in different areas can contribute from our knowledge for better development. And in the future, think about international medals. Now I think we should focus on the proper development of our boys and girls who are being trained in our sport, and help those who already have a track record to enhance what they are already doing. ”
