Champions on the Road to Paralympic Games

Pan Am Para badminton athletes from Brazil, Canada, United States and host Peru wom medals at Peru Para badminton International 2020, one of the last events that awards points for Tokyo 2020, in which Para badminton will be included for the first time in the history of the Paralympic Games.

The best for athletes in the world met in Lima, Peru, from February 18 to 23, in search of the points that allow them to continue dreaming of being in a Paralympic Games. Among them, Pan Am players managed to get on the podium in different events, strengthening their game and gaining experience for future sporting challenges.

Peru star, and currently World Champion, Giuliana Poveda, got 3 gold medals in SH6 category. Poveda defeated athletes from USA and Peru to won the title in Singles. Also, Giuliana took the podium top in Doubles with Katherine Valli (USA) and in Mixed Doubles with Nagar Krishna (IND).

Vitor Tavares (BRA), Pan Am Games Champion, was close to the crown in singles. He defeated athletes from France, USA, Ireland and England to reach the final where he lost against Nagar Krishna (IND) in a tough 3 games-match, winning the silver medal. Also in singles, Miles Krajewski (USA) won the bronze medal after losing against Krishna.

Tavares is one of the Pan Am players who is close to getting his qualification for Tokyo 2020 when the period ends, and will represent our region at a great level of play.

Another Pan Am player who could reach a quota for Tokyo 2020 is Pilar Jauregui (PER), who this time won the silver medal in Doubles, along with Valeska Knoblauch (GER), after defeating pairs from Russia and Korea but losing in the Final against, seeded one duo, Seeckin (TUR) and To (BEL).

Mikaela Almeida (BRA) in WS SU5, William Roussy (CAN) in MD SL3-SL4, Eduardo Oliveira (BRA) in MD SU5, Ronald Miranda (PER) and Maria Antunes (BRA) in XD WH1-WH2, Bernard Lapointe (CAN) in XD WH1-WH2, won the bronze medals in this event.

Know, our athletes and all Para badminton players, will continue looking for the qualification to Tokyo 2020 in Spain at the Spain Para badminton International 2020, that will be held in Murcia, from March 10 to 15.
