Athletes from Cuba, Brazil and Canada won gold at IX Santo Domingo Open 2018.
From October 22nd to 26th, the IX Santo Domingo Open 2018 was held with the participation of outstanding badminton players from different countries of our region, in the Sports Palace of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Osleni Guerrero (CUB) had an excellent tournament by overcoming tough rivals like Jonathan Matias (BRA), Pan Am Junior champion 2018, Fabio Caponio from Italy, seeded one Kevin Cordon (GUA) in Semi-Finals, and Rosario Maddaloni (ITA) in Finals. Kevin Cordon and Artur Silva Pomoceno (BRA) completed the podium.
Fabiana Silva returned to add a new crown in Pan Am Circuit by beating Taymara Oropesa(CUB) in the final. Nikte Sotomayor (GUA) and Josephine Wu (CAN) won the bronze medals.
Joshua Hurlburt-Yu won 2 gold medals in this event. The first in Men’s Doubles along with Duncan Yao, after beating Jonathan Solis and Rodolfo Ramirez (GUA) by 21-19, 16-21 and 21-17 in 58 minutes of play. The second gold medal was obtained in Mixed Doubles with Josephine Wu. In the final they beat Fabricio Farias and Jaqueline Lima (BRA), Olympic Pan Am players, by 21-17, 16-21 and 22-20.
In Women’s Doubles, Brazilian’s Lohaynny Vicente and Luana Vicente won the final match against Nikte Sotomayor and Diana Corleto (GUA) in two games. Breanna Chi and Angela Zhang (USA) won bronze along with Nairoby Jimenez and Bermary Polanco(DOM).
