“The Training Camp Helped Me Improve Several Things that I Needed” – Yeison Del Cid

Yeison Del Cid, a young promise of Guatemalan badminton, continues to prepare to achieve his goals with our sport.

After winning a bronze medal at the YONEX Pan Am Junior Championships 2022, Yeison has participated in different tournaments seeking to continue improving and was part of the Training Camp, held at the beginning of October, seeing an increase in his level of play.

“It was a nice experience, I had already been to another camp, but it hadn’t been as tough as this one. And thank God I increased my level. I thought I wasn’t going to level up that much, but the training camp helped me improve several things that I needed.”

Del Cid played basketball before getting involved in our sport, but his ability and talent led him to try badminton and finally get involved in our sport because of the opportunities it offer him.

“I used to train basketball and the coaches saw that I had the ability to play. The badminton coach saw me and invited me to try badminton. So I went to try that sport, I was given the opportunity to represent my country in international tournaments and I saw that badminton offered more opportunities so I gave up basketball and just played badminton.”

In addition, Del Cid competed at the BWF World Junior Championships 2022 in Santander, Spain, and will continue his preparation at the Denmark Center of Excellence, awaiting the situation in his country and the next events in which he may participate.

“Now follows the Junior World Cup and then a few days of training in Denmark. Then I will return to Guatemala to see how things continue and if it is possible to train there.”
