Suriname International 2019 Winners – Pan Am Circuit 2019

Athletes from Barbados, Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and host Suriname had outstanding performances at XIII Suriname International 2019, held in Paramaribo, Suriname, from November 13 to 16.

Mexico’s Haramara Gaitan won the Singles title after a good matches in this event. Gaitan defeated local players in preliminaries rounds, reaching Semfinals where 3 tough games (24-26, 21-10, 21-14) gave her a good victory against seeded one, Daniela Macias (PER). In the Final, Haramara got the crown in a 3-games-match against Tereza Švábíková (CZE) winning by 16-21, 21-13 and 23-21. Monyata Riviera (BAR) and Macias won the bronze medals after play in Semifinals.

In Men’s Singles, Brian Yang won one more title after defeating players from Suriname, Luxembourg and the Czech Republic, reaching the Final against Kevin Cordon. An injury did not allow Cordon to play the match and Yang won the crown. This is the third gold medal that Brian gets in the Pan Am Circuit 2019.

Barbados players took 4 of the 5 podiums. In addition to the bronze in Women’s Singles, they won 3 silver medals (all doubles events) and one gold in Mixed Doubles. Shae Michael Martin and Sabrina Scott won the crown after defeating Gavin Robinson and Monyata Riviera, also from Barbados, by 21-15 and 21-16.

Daniela Macias and Danica Nishimura had no troubles winning the crown in Women’s Doubles. Peru’s duo defeated Monyata Riviera and Sabrina Scott (BAR) in the final, winning their third title at Pan Am Circuit 2019.

Local athletes won one gold and six bronze medals in all doubles events. Danny Chen and Mitchel Wongsodikromo won the gold in Men’s Doubles after defeating seeded one duo, Shae Martin and Gavin Robinson (BAR) in the final.

Pan Am Circuit 2019 will continue with the II El Salvador International next december.
