Honderich and Tsai Won the Crown – Pan Am Games 2019

Rachel Honderich and Kristen Tsai got the second gold medal for Canada after winning the Women’s Doubles Final at XVIII Pan Am Games 2019. held in Lima, Peru.

Canada’s duo defeated Kuei-Ya Chen and Jamie Hsu in straight games (21-10, 21-9) and reached their first medal as a duo.

Honderich and Tsai started the tournament with a comfortable  victory against Paula La Torre/Ines Castillo (21-3, 21-3) and defeated Tamires Santos/Fabiana Silva in Semifinals. After winning the final, they confirmed being the best in the region winning the title in Pan Am Championships 2019 last april and this Pan Am Games 2019.

“We are very excited, we did a great job and we were able to achieve what we were looking for so much. We were very nervous because we knew that the opponents would be tough but we played as we know and we were able to finish the game happily. We played together since two years, we have been improving and now we have the opportunity to reach Tokyo 2020, it will be a tough road but by doing our best we can get the classification.” Honderich and Tsai after the victory.

Rachel got her third Pan Am Games medal (1 silver and 1 bronze in Toronto) and has the chance to reach one more gold in Singles today.

Brazil got the 2 bronze medals with Tamires Santos / Fabiana Silva and Jaqueline Lima/ Samia Lima.

Our Pan Am Athletes added importants points for the Road to Tokyo 2020 Ranking and are more close to the big dream: the Olympic Games.
