First Champions – Pan Am Circuit 2019

The Pan Am Badminton Circuit 2019 already knows its first champions. The V Jamaica International 2019 was held in Kingstone, Jamaica, from March 6 to 10.

Jonathan Solis and Rodolfo Ramirez (GUA) started the year winning gold in Doubles after beating outstandings Pan Am players as Jose Guevara / Daniel La Torre (PER) and Gareth Henry / Samuel Ricketts (JAM). Mexico’s stars Job Castillo and Lino Muñoz completed the podium with bronze medals.

United States young athletes, Breanna Chi and Jennie Gai, won gold in Women’s Doubles with a outstanding performance in each match. They reached the title after defeating Luana Vicente/Lohaynny Vicente (BRA), seeded 1 Bukoviczki/ Gonda (HUN) and Ines Castillo/Danica Nishimura (PER) in finals. Also, our Youth Olympic athlete, Jennie Gai, won bronze medal in Singles, being the only Pan Am athlete on this podium.

Artur Pomoceno and Lohaynny Vicente won gold medal for Brazil in Mixed Doubles. They beat Vinson Chiu / Breanna Chi at Finals in 3 tough games (21-17, 14-21, 21-19). Fabricio Farias/ Jaqueline Lima (BRA) and Jonathan Solis / Diana Corleto (GUA), seeded 1 and 2 respectly, reached semifinals and won bronze.

Guatemala’s star, Kevin Cordon, won silver in Singles. The Pan Am Games 2015 champion beat athletes from Barbados, Azerbaijan, Belgium and Mexico but can not surpass Kodai Naraoka (JPN), bronze medal in YOG 2018, in Finals. Also, Job Castillo (MEX) was on the podium with a bronze medal.

The Winner Ceremony was lead by Nichole Case, president of Jamaica Badminton Association.

Now, our athletes will prepare for the next challenge of the Pan Am Circuit 2019: XX Giraldilla 2019, that will take place in La Habana, Cuba, this week.
