On Friday 21st, the V Herbalife Junior International Guatemala 2018 culminated, a tournament that brought together young athletes from Costa Rica, Panama, United States and host Guatemala at the Teodoro Palacios Flores Arena in Guatemala City.
Natalie Chi (USA) won gold in Women’s Singles, being the only category in which the locals could not dominate the podium. The outstanding player Sara Michelle Barrios (GUA) could not overcome Chi who took the victory after 3 games, 15-21, 21-19 and 21-14. The locals Adriana Barrios and Alejandra Paiz won the bronze medals.
Jose Luis Granados (GUA), climbed to the top of the podium in Singles, after beating Daniel Dieguez (GUA) in a close match, 21-11, 21-23 and 22-20 in 55 minutes of game. Carlos Alvanes and Yeison Del Cid, also from Guatemala, completed the podium.
Alejandra Paiz, in addition to the bronze medal in Singles, would add 2 gold medals in this tournament, when winning in Women’s Doubles, along with Mariana Paiz, and in Mixed Doubles, along with Axel Flores.
In Men’s Doubles, Dieguez and Axel Flores won by 21-19, 13-21 and 21-18 to Granados and Antonio Emanuel, thus adding a new gold medal.
