Champions at Games Venue – Pan Am Circuit 2019

Pan Am players from Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Guatemala, United States and host Peru won medals at Peru International 2019, held in the venue of the next Pan Am Games Lima 2019.

Peru’s National Sports Village was the scene that hosted exciting matches from June 20 to 23.

The last day of the competition began with the victory of the Olympic athletes Howard Shu and Paula Lynn Obanana (USA) in Mixed Doubles, against the young Brazilian duo Fabricio Farias / Jaqueline Lima, by 21-17 and 22-20. Jonathan Solis / Diana Corleto (GUA) and Artur Pomoceno / Fabiana Silva (BRA) won the bronze medals.

Ruben Castellanos and Anibal Marroquin (GUA) beat Fabricio Farias and Francielton Farias (BRA) in the Men’s Doubles final (22-20, 21-17) reaching the tournament gold medal. Jonathan Solis / Rodolfo Ramirez (GUA) and locals Bruno Barrueto / Diego Subauste completed the podium.

In Women’s Singles, Taymara Oropesa (CUB) won the silver medal after beating Jaqueline Lima (BRA), Alejandra Paiz (GUA) and seeded one Disha Gupta (USA) but falling to Ghaida Nurul Ghaniyu (INA) in the final.

Brian Yang (CAN) defeated players from Chile, USA, Cuba, Brazil and Guatemala to reach the gold medal. Kevin Cordon (GUA) ,with the silver medal, and Artur Pomoceno and B. R. Sankeerth completed the podium.

Diana Corleto and Nikte Sotomayor won a new gold medal for Guatemala after beating Samia Lima and Jaqueline Lima in the final by 21-15 and 21-16. Peru’s duo Daniela Macias / Danica Nishimura and Tamires Santos / Fabiana Silva (BRA) won the bronze medals.

Brian Yang is Still Shining

After winning the gold medal in the Relay Team Event of the Youth Olympics at the end of last year and getting good results in several international tournaments this year, the Canadian young promise continues to win and surprise his rivals.

This time, and just over 1 month before the Pan American Games 2019, Yang defeated the current champion, Kevin Cordon (GUA) after an hour of match and 3 tough games.

In addition, Yang also beat Pan American champion 2019, Osleni Guerrero (CUB) in the quarterfinals, number one Pan Am Ranking, Ygor Coelho, in the Brazil International Challenge 2019 and is emerging as one of the players to follow in Lima 2019, after Badminton Canada will confirm his participation.

 

Our Pan Am players continue to focus on their preparation for the next Pan American Games Lima 2019, but also adding points in the BWF Ranking for the Lima 2019 seededs and for the qualification to the next Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
