Champions Again!! – Pan Am 2019

Michelle Li, Nyl Yakura & Jason Ho-Shue and Rachel Honderich & Kristen Tsai managed to defend their title in the best way and got the gold in the XXIII Pan Am Individual Championships 2019, held in Aguascalientes, Mexico, with participation of athletes from 18 differents countries.

Osleni Guerrero returned to the top of the podium and is the new Pan-American champion.

Nyl Yakura and Jason Ho-Shue (CAN) add their 4th title in a row after beat Osleni Guerrero and Leodannis Martinez in an amazing finals match (21-11, 20-22, 21-10). Canada’s star Michelle Li won her 4th crown after beating Brittney Tam in the final (21-15, 24-22). Crystal Pan and Jennie Gai from USA reached bronze medals.

The Pan Am Women’s Doubles Champions are still Rachel Honderich & Kristen Tsai, who beat their compatriots Catherine Choi and Josephine Wu 21-15 and 27-25 in the final. Jaqueline Lima / Samia Lima (BRA) and Sabrina Solis / Vanessa Villalobos (MEX) reached semifinals and won the 3/4 place.

Josephine Wu repeated the gold medal in Mixed Doubles obtained the previous edition and this time with Joshua Hurlburt-Yu (CAN). They achieved the first place after beating Fabricio Farias and Jaqueline Lima (BRA) in the first match of the day (21-14 / 21-19). The Canadian duos Nicolas Nguyen / Alexandra Mocanu and Nyl Yakura / Kristen Tsai completed the podium.

Cuba’s Osleni Guerrero won his third Pan-American crown (2013-2014) after defeating Kevin Cordon (GUA) in an exciting match (21-11, 22-20). The local Job Castillo, who beat the last champion Ygor Coelho (BRA), and Jason Ho-Shue (CAN) won the bronze medals.

The XXIII Pan Am Individual Championships 2019 was played from April 25th to 28th at the Gimnasio Olimpico de Ciudad Deportiva de Aguascalientes, Mexico, with outstanding players that were showing a preview of what we will experience at the Pan Am Games in Lima 2019.
