CAREBACO Junior Champions

The CAREBACO Junior International 2018 was held from 16 to 19 August at the Ring Sport Center of Paramaribo, Suriname, and was attended by U19 badminton players from Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and host Suriname.

The final day began with the Mixed Doubles match, where Geordan Tjon Kon Joe and Imani Mangroe awarded the first medal for Suriname by beating Vance Juteram and Chequeda De Boulet (TTO) after 3 hard-fought games (15-21, 21-17 and 21-17). Jason Cheung/Vivian Huang (SUR) and Kevin Karg/ Faith Sarinam (SUR) complete the podium.

Danny Chen (SUR) and Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) were the champions in Singles.

Chen won the second gold medal for the host country by beating Gavin Robinson of Barbados in the final by 18-21, 21-10 and 21-10. Kodie King (BAR) and Tariq Sweet (SUR) won bronze medals. In addition, Chen along with Jair Naipal added another gold by winning in the Men’s Doubles final against their compatriots Geordan Tjon Kon Joe and Eric Wu by 22-20, 12-21 and 21-16 in 40 minutes of game. The podium was completed by Jason Cheung/Jun Lim Cheung (SUR) and Jason Chen/Kevin Karg (SUR).

In the other side, Ramdhani won two gold medals. The first in Singles to overcome Chequeda De Boulet (TTO) by 21-10 and 21-4. Imani Mangroe (SUR) and Faith Sarinam (SUR) reached semifinals and won bronze medals. In addition, Ramdhani and De Boulet together won gold medal in Women’s Doubles by winning the final against locals Imani Mangroe and Faith Sarinam (SUR) by 21-14 and 21-12. Erisa Bleau/Chaista Soemodpoero (SUR) and Vivian Huang/Sion Zeegelar (SUR) reached 3/4 places.

Now, athletes of the region are preparing to play the CAREBACO International 2018, continuing with the CAREBACO Games 2018.
