CAREBACO International Winners

From August 21 to 24, CAREBACO International 2018 took place, with the participation of outstanding badminton players from Barbados, Germany, Guyana, Jamaica, Luxembourg, Trinidad & Tobago and host Suriname.

The Ring Sport Center of Paramaribo, Suriname, hosted the victories of Tamisha Williams (BAR) who won 2 gold and one silver in the tournament. Also of note were Sören Opti (SUR), Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY), CAREBACO Junior Champion, Dakeil Thorpe (BAR), among others.

The final day began with the Women Singles final match between Tamisha Williams (BAR) and Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY), where after 3 tight games, Williams beat Ramdhani 21-17, 17-21 and 21-18. Rugshaar Ishaak (SUR) and Katherine Wynter (JAM) won the bronze medals of the modality.

Shael Michael Martin & Dakeil Thorpe would add the second gold medal for Barbados to be crowned champions in Men’s Doubles by beating Dylan Darmohoetomo & Gilmar Jones (SUR) by 21-19, 18-21 and 21-16. Johanthan Mangra & Nayaran Ramdhani (GUY) and Mitchel Wongsodikromo & Kevin Yao Lin Zou (SUR) reach semifinals and complete the podium.

Tamisha Williams won her second gold medal in Women’s Doubles with Monyata Riviera (BAR) after beating Chequeda De Boulet (TTO) & Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) by 21-15 and 21-14. The bronze medals were for Imani Mangroe / Mary-Ann Zhong and Avril Plaza (TTO) / Sabrina Scott (BAR).

The longest match was the Men’s Singles final. Suriname’s Sören Opti won the silver medal after falling to Robert Mann from Luxembourg 21-18, 21-12 and 21-17 in 53 minutes. German’s Camilo Borst and Aubrey Nai Chung Tong Mitch (SUR) won bronze medals.

In Mixed Doubles, locals won the gold medal. Dylan Darmohoetomo and Crystal Leefmans beat the favorites, Dakeil Thorpe and Tamisha Williams (BAR), by 22-20, 18-21 and 21-19. Barbados duo Cory Fanus / Monyata Riviera and Narayan Ramdhani / Priyanna Ramdhani from Guyana complete the podium.
