Badminton players from Brazil, Peru, Chile and Venezuela managed to get on the podium of the South American Games Cochabamba 2018.
Evo Morales Polifunctional Coliseum in Cochabamba city, Bolivia, hosted the badminton competitions, which began with the Team Event in which Brazil prevailed against Peru in a close Final (3-1) and climbed to the top of the podium. Chile got the third place after beating Venezuela by 3 – 2.
Brazilians shined by winning 4 gold medals
After the gold medal obtained in Team Event, Brazilians Ygor Coelho and Fabiana Silva won Singles Finals to Arthur Pomoceno (BRA) and Daniela Macias (PER) respectively. Peruvians José Guevara, Daniel La Torre, Inés Castillo and Paula La Torre won the bronze medals.
In Men’s Doubles, the Brazilian duo Coelho / Pomoceno won the final against Peruvians Barrueto / Mini (PER), who won the silver medal. Chile’s duo Christian Araya / Ivan Leon and Guevara / La Torre (PER) took third place on the podium.
Peru’s Danica Nishimura won 2 gold medals
Nishimura and Daniela Macias won Women’s Doubles Final against Fabiana Silva and Luana Vicente, thus adding the first gold medal for their country. The bronze medals were for Ines Castillo / Paula La Torre (PER) and Ashley Montre / Constanza Naranjo (CHI).
In Mixed Doubles, Nishimura and Daniel La Torre did the same against Vicente and Pomoceno (BRA). The Chileans Ivan Leon and Ashley Montre won the bronze medal with the Venezuela’s duo Jesus Sanchez and Michelle Martinez.
