More than 100 athletes from Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Suriname, United States and host Guatemala will seek to climb to the top of the Pan-American podium.

Ygor Coelho (BRA) and Rachel Honderich (CAN) were Singles champions in 2017, beating Osleni Guerrero (CUB) and Britney Tam (CAN), champions in previous editions. They along with Michelle Li (CAN), Kevin Cordon (GUA), Daniela Macias (PER), Jason Ho-Shue (CAN) and Jamie Hsu (USA) are some of the most outstanding Pan Am badminton players who will fight for the first place in the tournament.

Daniela Macías and Danica Nishimura (PER) will seek their revenge against Michelle Tong and Josephine Wu (CAN), who defeated the Peruvians in last year’s final. In addition, Phillip Chew and Ryan Chew (USA) will look for gold in Doubles and surpass Canadians Jason Ho-Shue and Nyl Yakura, the last Pan-American champions.

In Mixed Doubles, Daniel La Torre and Danica Nishimura (PER) start as favorites to win the competition along with Cubans Leodannis Martinez and Taymara Oropesa.

In the XXII Pan Am Individual Championships 2018 Fixed Height Service law will be applied, just as the BWF announced earlier: “This law specifies that the height for the service will be 1.15 meters from the court surface and will begin to be applied in the individual continental tournaments that will take place in April 2018.”
