Pan Am Team 2018 – Results Day 3

Canada and USA will dispute the Male and Female Finals!!!

This Saturday the Pan Am Team 2018 Semifinals were played and, after exciting matches, United States and Canada managed to qualify to the Finals in both competition: Male and Female.

In Male competition, the United States beat Peru after coming from behind on the scoreboard. The first singles match was won by Daniel La Torre (PER) for 22-20 and 21-19. Diego Mini (PER) put the aggregate score 2-0 in favor of Peru after beating Calvin Lin (USA) 21-8 and 21-14. Ricky Liuzhou started the comeback of United States, he won in the Singles third match against Diego Subauste (PER) y put the global score 2-1. The experienced US duo Phillip and Ryan Chew matched the overall scoreboard by beating Mario Cuba and Diego Mini (PER). Finally, Liuzhou and Sattawat Pongnairat won the second doubles match by 21-13, 21-23 and 21-13, thus sealing the United States victory (3-2).

In the other series, Canada managed to qualify to the final after beating Jamaica 3-1. Jason Ho-Shue scored the first point for Canada by beating Samuel Ricketts (JAM) 21-14 and 21-15 in 25 minutes. However, Gareth Henry (JAM) tied the score after beating Brian Yang (CAN) 2-0. Ho-Shue again gave a point to Canada, now in doubles with Nyl Yakura, winning the first Doubles match against Dennis Coke and Anthony Mcnee (JAM). Paul-Antoine Dostie-Gundon put the score 3-1 for Canada by beating Matthew Lee (JAM) in the third Singles match.

United States beat Peru 3-0 in the Women’s Semifinal. Jamie Subandhi opened the path of victory for United States after beating Daniela Macias (PER) 21-9 and 21-5. Jamie Hsu (CAN) won (2-0) in the second singles match against Ines Castillo (PER) and Lauren Lam obtained the same result against Daniela Zapata (PER) assuring her presence in the Finals tomorrow.

Canada also reached Female Finals after comfortably overtaking Guatemala (3-0). Brittney Tam won the first singles match (2-0) against Alejandra Paiz (GUA) by 21-9 in both games. Talia Ng (CAN) obtained the same result against Diana Corleto (GUA) and Catherine Choi (CAN) sealed the qualification for Canada when she defeated Mariana Paiz (GUA) 2-0.

In the 5th place match, the male team of Dominican Republic beat Barbados 3-0, after won the 3 singles matches. Cesar Brito (DOM) won the first match against Fanus Cory (BAR) by 21-9 and 21-15. Reymi Cabreras (DOM) beat Dakeil Thorpe (BAR) after 42 game minutes and Wilmer Brea (DOM) put the final score 3-0 for Dominican Republic.
