Pan Am Players Around the World – January 2022

During January 2022, Pan Am players were competing in different tournaments around the world with a great success.

Brian Yang reached the semifinals at India Open 2022, HSBC World Tour Super 500 event, after defeating players from India and Denmark. In Semifinals he would face Loh Ken Yew (SGP), recently World Champion 2021. Brian showed a great performance during the competition but he could not play in the semifinals because he was not feeling well.

“(The Semifinals day) I had a slight fever and a headache along with a sore throat, and my body just felt really weak. I knew for sure that with how I was feeling, there was no way I could play the semis that day, so I decided to tell the referee I was withdrawing”, published Brian on his social networks, also announcing that he tested positive for Covid-19 and is in the process of recovering.

With this results, Brian continues to lead the Pan Am MS Ranking and is the number 34 of the BWF MS Ranking.

Lauren Lam (USA) and Xiaodong Sheng (CAN) faced also competed at India Open 2022. Lam showed a great performance defeating players from Ukraine and India but losing against seeded 2 Busana Ongbamrungphan (THA). Sheng faced Loh Kean Yew (SGP) in the first round and lost in a 3-games-match.

USA player Esther Shi played the Estonian International 2022 reaching Semifinals in Women’s Singles. Shi defeated players from Moldova, Russia and England but lost in Semifinals against Thamonwan Nithiittikrai (THA). She also played Doubles with Katelin Ngo and Mixed Doubles with Trevor Tan.

The Estonian International 2022 also had the presence of Kevin Barkman (CAN) and Kelvin Chong (USA).

Wen Yu Zhang (CAN) won the silver medal of the Ukraine Open 2022, an International Challenge event who also had the presence of Jennie Gai (USA).

Zhang defeated players from Ukraine, Italy, Hungary and Switzerland to reach the Finals where she faced seeded 1 Aliye Demirbag from Turkey and lost in straight games.

This medal allows Wen Yu  to continue adding points in the world ranking and has currently entered the top 10 of the Pan Am WS Ranking.

Ishika Jaiswal (USA) reached semifinals of Women’s Doubles at Odisha Open 2022 along with Srivedya Gurazada (IND). Disha Gupta (USA) and Xiaodong Sheng (CAN) also competed in this event each playing a match.
