Cuba to Semifinals – Pan Am Team 2019

Cuba defeated host Peru in Quarterfinals and aiming for the podium.

Osleni Guerrero, Taymara Oropesa and Leodannis Martinez lead the victory against host Peru and will face Canada in Semifinals.

Cuban duo Guerrero / Martinez sealed the tie (3-1) and will face the defending champion, Canada, that want to win their eleventh title in a row.

“We faced the game with a lot of impetus to win the tie and with great effort we achieved it. The Mixed Doubles game was the decisive one, if we won that we had a great chance of winning the tie and that’s how it was. Canada is the strongest rival but we intend to play to win as always. My team is special because of the union, dedication and effort that we all put”, said the Cuban Team captain, Leodannis Martinez.

USA vs Brazil in Semifinals

Olympic athlete Phillip Chew was fundamental for the USA victory (3-1) against Mexico, winning in Mixed Doubles match, with Breanna Chi, and in Men’s Doubles with Ryan Chew. This year, USA don’t want to repeat the third place and will seek to reach the finals but Brazil is looking for the gold.

For its part, Peru will face Mexico for the fifth place in the ranking, while Guatemala will do the same with Dominican Republic for the seventh place.

Colombia climbing

With their first participation at Pan Am Mixed Team Event, Team Colombia reach position 9 in the ranking after lost the tie against Dominican Republic, but showing a great badminton level and with an amazing future in our sport. Congratulations Colombia!!

Jamaica finished the tournament in location 10 of the general ranking after beating Argentina 3-0.
