We already know the Pan Am players that will compete in the Semifinals of the XXIII Pan Am Individual Championships 2019, held in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Athletes from Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Guatemala, Jamaica, United States and host Mexico will compete at Semifinals tomorrow.
Surprising Matches
Cuban stars, Osleni Guerrero and Leodannis Martinez surprised in Men’s Doubles after beat Mario Cuba and Diego Mini (PER) in straight games, and Phillip Chew and Ryan Chew (USA) in Quarter Finals. Now, they will face another surprising duo: Andres Lopez/Luis Montoya, who won against Anibal Marroquin/Ruben Castellanos (GUA) and Joshua Hurlburt-Yu/Ducan Yao for reach Semifinals.
After beat Jonathan Solis and Rodolfo Ramirez (bronze in last edition), Gareth Henry and Samuel Ricketts (JAM) want to surprise the defending champions, Jason Ho-Shue and Nyl Yakura (CAN) who are in the correct way to reach the gold one more time. Canadian players beat local best duo Lino Muñoz/Job Castillo in Quarter-Finals.
Ready to win
Rachel Honderich and Kristen Tsai (CAN) won against Diana Corleto/Nikte Sotomayor (GUA) by 21-3 and 21-6 and will face Samia Lima/Jaqueline Lima (BRA) in Semifinals. Brazilian duo beat local Haramara Gaitan/Adriana Valero and Daniela Macías/Danica Nishimura (PER) in QuarterFinals.
For the other side of the draw, Mexican Sabrina Solis and Vanessa Villalobos will ‘defend the house’ and reach a gold medal after the face Catherine Choi/Josephine Wu (CAN) in Semifinales.
Almost Canadian Podium
Three Canada’s duos will compete in Semifinals: Joshue Hurlburth-Yu/Josephine Wu, Nicolas Nguyen/Alexandra Mocanu and Nyl Yakura/Kristen Tsai. But Brazil young stars Fabricio Farias and Jaqueline Lima want the gold medal and will fight to reach it. After beat Montoya/Villalobos (MEX) and Guerrero/Oropesa (CUB), the youth olympic athletes will face Yakura/Tsai looking for the finals. While, Hurlburth-Yu/Wu and Nguyen/Mocanu will show who duo is better.
Early Goodbye for Ygor.
Pan Am athlete Ygor Coelho, defending champion, lost to local Job Castillo after 3 hard games (23-21, 18-21, 21-15) in Quarterfinals. Coelho, who had won in previous rounds to Vinson Chiu (USA) and Brian Yang (CAN), said goodbye to the podium and will not be able to get his third Pan-American crown in this edition.
Job Castillo will face Kevin Cordon in the semifinals, last Pan Am Games champion, while Osleni Guerrero (CUB) will do the same against to Jason Ho-Shue. The 4 athletes already know what it is to get on a Pan-American podium and will seek to win the gold medal.
Firm Pace
Michelle Li walks firmly towards a new crown. Li beat Katherine Lara (ESA), Maria Delia Zambrano (ECU) and Nairoby Jimenez (DOM), and now will face Crystal Pan (USA), who beat local Sabrina Solis and brazilian players Jaqueline Lima and Samia Lima.
For the other side, Brittney Tam, champion in 2016, want to reach a new pan am crown and wil face Jennie Gai, Youth Olympic Athlete who is surprising in this edition with her vitories against locals Haramara Gaitan and Mariana Ugalde for reach semifinales.
The XXIII Pan Am Individual Championships 2019 will be played from April 25th to 28th at the Gimnasio Olimpico de Ciudad Deportiva de Aguascalientes, Mexico with outstanding players that are showing a preview of what we will experience at the Pan Am Games in Lima 2019.
