Costa Rica took an important step in promoting badminton at the university level with its first University Badminton Tournament, bringing together 27 participants from seven universities and encouraging the growth of the sport within the academic community.
The I Costa Rica University Badminton Tournament was held on October 25 at the Sports Complex of the Universidad Nacional (UNA) in San José, bringing together students from four public and three private universities.
The participating institutions included the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica, Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED), Universidad Nacional (UNA), Universidad Fidélitas, Universidad Invenio, and CENFOTEC.
The tournament featured three events: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, and Mixed Doubles, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their skills, enjoy the competition, and share their passion for badminton.

Beyond the results, the event reflected the enthusiasm and commitment of the university community to creating new spaces for badminton. It also encouraged interaction between students from different institutions, promoting teamwork, friendship, and the values of sport.
Initiatives like this play an important role in expanding badminton’s presence beyond traditional competitive environments, creating new opportunities for participation and supporting its development at the grassroots level.

Badminton Pan Am congratulates everyone involved in making this first edition possible and recognizes the value of local initiatives that bring new communities closer to badminton and contribute to the continued growth of our sport across the Americas.
