Victor Lai achieved one of the tournament’s most surprising results after defeating the 11th seed, Lu Guang Zu (CHN) in a three-games match. After losing the first game (13-21), Victor imposed his rhythm and won the second game (21-12). He then won the final game (21-10), outscoring his opponent by 11 points and advancing to the next round. Tomorrow, he will face Korean Jeon Hyeok Jin to continue making history.
“I feel amazing. I mean, it’s a big upset. I’ll say I didn’t expect it, but I also want to say I did expect it. I was just doing my best, so I am very happy.”
Michelle Li also advanced to the next round after defeating Ozge Bayrak (TUR) in three intense games. Li showed solidity by winning the first game (21-14), but the conditions didn’t allow her to secure the result in the second game (17-21). She finally prevailed in the third game (21-10), consolidating her qualification for the round of 16, where she will face the top seed An Se Young from Korea.
“I’m glad I made it in the end. I had some difficulties with the drafting of the court, but I saved it for last when I needed to, so I’m excited to play again tomorrow and perform better.”
