Para-Badminton Champions in Denmark

Para-Badminton athletes from Brazil and Canada got medals at the Victor Denmark Para-Badminton 2018, tournament held in Odense, Denmark, from October 17 to 20. Also, Pan Am players from Chile and Guatemala got good results during the competition.

The Marienlyst Hallerne was the venue that gathered outstandings badminton players from more than 20 countries, of which, our Pan Am players stood out with their good game and won medals for our region.

Marcelo Alves Conceição (BRA) played the 3 possible finals and won 2 gold and one silver. Alves, who competes in the WH1 category, reached the final in Singles after beating Italy and England’s competitors in Group B, qualifying to Quarterfinals where he beat his peers from Israel and England and losing in the Final against Thomas Wandschneider (GER), thus winning the Silver medal.

Our last Pan American champion won the gold medals in MD and XD along with Sanjeev Kumar (IND) and Marcela Quinteros (ESP) respectively.

Yuka Chokyu (CAN) also got 2 Bronze medals. The first in Singles, where she reached Semifinals but could not beat Man-Kei To (BEL) in a close match (27-29 and 14-21). The second bronze medal came in Doubles, where Yuka, along with Sharon Barnes (ENG), fell in Semifinals against Henriet Koósz (AUT) and Marcela Quinteros (ESP).

Brazil also got another bronze medal from the hand of Rogerio De Oliveira, who, along with Mary Wilson (SCO), added 2 losses and one victory achieving the third location in XD SL3-SU5.

Our Para-Badminton Pan Am players are already preparing for the Para-Badminton’s debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Now, they are training to face the Pan Am Para-Badminton Championships 2018 next November and the upcoming Para-Pan American Games Lima 2019.
